MSG Steering Assembly Line
At the time of this archived report, seven MSG steering assembly lines had been produced, with a normal cycle below 30 seconds. A data management system supports production tracking and assembly monitoring and traceability.
Some machines operate fully automatically. A carrier-based transfer system moves workpieces to each subsequent processing or inspection station, enabling unmanned operation at these stations.
Line layouts are mainly straight or loop configurations. Straight lines use two transfer levels: workpieces travel on the upper level and fixtures return on the lower level. Loop lines use a single level, with fixtures travelling along one side and returning along the other.
Error-proofing, inspection and monitoring throughout assembly support assembly quality. Test equipment monitors parameter changes in real time, records test data as tables and curves, and displays and stores the results.
